In the 10th of September 1989, a group of young adventurous students from Ateneo de Naga with common interest in outdoor activities got together first as “barkada” to form a club for other like-minded people.

From a membership of 17 students when it was first established, Hagahag is more than 100-strong young men today. Significantly, club’s members play an important role in the local outdoor pursuit its being one of the most active and influential mountaineering organization in the province. Members were also first introduce the sport of mountaineering and rock climbing and first to establish outdoor shop in our province. Hagahag was also first to open several routes and trails of provinces major and minor mountains.

Hagahag organized its first mountain trekking to the foot of Mt. Isarog, Bicol National Park and to various parks and caves in Camarines Sur with only one-day trek because of minimal and inappropriate camping paraphernalia. More often brought the group one step forward and two steps backward.

It gradually evolved into a full pledge nature and outdoor organization. In 1995, it was transformed into a more serious organization and registered under SEC (Reg. No. INO95-000147), as it should today, Hagahag is a teacher as well as a leader; active in promotion of responsible wilderness use; a welcoming and friendly mountain companion as happy to share skills and experiences as to guide on challenging peaks.

While trekking constitutes a major portion of fits activities, Hagahag offers a year round of activities. There are short weekend camps, nature awareness camps and tours, Basic Mountaineering Courses, First Aid Trainings, Beacheneering, Island Hoppings, among others, for its members. Members also do their bit for charity such as cleaning up and tree-planting activities; the club is constantly on the lookout for opportunities for new exciting outdoor adventures.
